The Artist Residency, Henry, IL is a three week program for undergraduate and graduate college students that pairs students with host families in Henry, Illinois. Henry is a small town (population 2,500) located on a picturesque stretch of the Illinois River in Marshall County. The student residents will use the three weeks to work on projects of their choice. At the end of the residency, the student residents will display their works in an exhibit and reception open to all.
The goals of the program are to provide an opportunity for the student residents to develop as artists and to highlight Henry as a place that both welcomes the arts and one that can be further enlivened economically and socially by investments in culture.
Both undergraduate and graduate college students studying the arts are eligible to apply for the residency. The residency is seeking student working in the following disciplines: painting, drawing, graphic design, industrial design, and photography.
Student residents will arrive in Henry on June 2, 2017. The residency will culminate with an exhibit/reception that will take place the evenings of Friday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 24th and a community project on Sunday, June 25th.
A committee of Henry residents and artists will select the residents.
Host families provide a separate bedroom for the student residents for the three week duration of the program. Families may also invite the student residents to participate in family meals and other events.
Each student resident will receive a stipend of $750 for the period of the residency. These funds are intended to cover the costs of materials that student residents need for their work as well as any meals not provided by host families and other incidentals. The residency has also rented a storefront in downtown Henry where the student residents will work and display their work. In addition to work created during the residency, students may display prior works. They may also sell their work at the final exhibition.
The student residents will work on projects of their choosing during their three weeks in Henry. They will provide their own art supplies. At the end of the residency, the student residents will exhibit their work. Students will also participate in two art workshops for local residents and are asked to end their residency by participating in a community project with Henry volunteers.
